TEENS AND ROLE MODELS 3.
*TEENS AND ROLE MODELS 3.*
Mindset is another factor that influences the choice of a role model. Their thinking has a significant impact on who they choose as their role model. There are two types of mindsets at work here. It's either a growth mindset or a prevention mindset.
The growth mindset is concerned with achieving goals, whereas the prevention mindset is concerned with avoiding tragedy.
The growth mentality is demonstrated by young people who regard themselves as active learners who attain and accomplish goals through diligence and perseverance. If their attitude or approach to life is to avoid difficulty, challenge, or undesirable outcomes, they are more inclined to seek out people who can teach them avoidance tactics.
This could include cheating on tests or abusing drugs or alcohol to avoid dealing with life's challenges. Just be aware that the preventative mindset is in place. The truth is that you can't focus on two things at once. You're either promoting progress or avoiding problems.
Failure is viewed as a necessary part of the process in a growth mentality. Show me a man who has succeeded, and I will show you a man who has successfully mastered the art of failing successfully.
Because the preventive mindset is frightened of failure, it has put a number of copying mechanisms in place.Where did they pick up these attitudes? From us as parents, because we reproduce after our kind.
To remedy the situation, we must focus our attention on and foster our children's strengths while teaching them that failing is a natural part of the process. The fact that you failed shows that you have the potential to succeed.
The quicker our children grasp that failing does not make you a failure, but rather an event that provides an opportunity to learn and perform better the next time, the better for all of us.
