            *AVOID STRIFE*

SCRIPTURE: But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, Patient - *2 Timothy 2:23-24*

*Following Peace with all men is Non Negotiable in our walk with God.*

*We must deliberately avoid controversies, godless arguments and strife.*

*Strife opens the door to all kinds of evil and is the root cause of divisions and broken relationships.*

*In Genesis 13:7,* the Bible says there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle. 

This later led to division between Abram and Lot, though they were family. 

Because of strife, they went their separate ways. *Genesis 18:7-9, James 3:16*

Strife between Esau and Jacob caused Esau to seek after his brother's life, Jacob. 

*In our Generation, many men and women have consciously or unconsciously taken away the life of their spouse, because of strife.*

*Psalms 55:9;* tells us that violence and strife go together. 

*Strife is a Pointer to the fact that a man is a carnal christian* - *1 Corinthians 3:3*

*Unknown to many of us, strife is in the same class with idolatry and witchcraft.* - *Galatians 5:20*

*Strife causes great danger that must be avoided.*

Paul counselled all the servants of God, not to strife. 

Solomon said it is an honour for a man to cease from strife but every fool will be meddling - *Proverbs 20:3*

He went ahead and said better is a day morsel, and quietness therewith, than a house full of sacrifices with strife - *Proverbs 17:1*

At the root of strife is anger.

The Bible says a wrathful man stirs up strife but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife - *Proverbs 15:18*

Similarly, the Bible says an angry man stirs up strife - *Proverbs 29:22*

*Anger gives rise to unforgiveness which leads to bitterness and eventually escalates into strife.*

*In our Bible Text above, Paul revealed unto Timothy, his spiritual son, what to do to avoid strife - He mentioned Gentleness, Patience, Meekness, avoiding foolish and unlearned questions and being apt to teach.*

*This is admonition we must take to heart if we want to follow Peace with all men.*

The question is are we ready to obey?

*Prayer:* 

Father, Please give me the Grace to avoid strife and follow after the way of Peace in Jesus Christ Name.
