SCRIPTURE: And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false Prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold - *Matthew 24:10-12*
*The Bible enjoins us to overlook offences because of the danger of being offended.*
Jesus said: Whosoever shall not be offended in Him, is blessed - *Matthew 11:6*
A Study of our Bible Text clearly states that being offended result into betrayal, which in turn leads to hatred.
*Therefore, being offended is a step away from harbouring hatred.*
*In 1 John 4:20,* the Bible says, if a man says: I love God and hateth his brother, he is a liar, for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?'
*Taking offence causes our love for God to wax cold* - *Matthew 24:12*
*When our love for God grows cold, we become as sounding cymbal, irrespective of the Gift of God bestowed on us* - *1 Corinthians 13:1*
*It is therefore, a great blessing to our Spiritual Development, if we have the attitude of overlooking an offence, since offences will surely come* - *Matthew 18:7*
*Proverbs 19:11 says:* The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger; and it is his Glory to overlook a Transgression.
When we don't allow anything to offend us, Great Peace shall we have - *Psalms 119:165*
Peter the Apostle is a Good example to follow - He was apprehended by Herod the king and was put in Prison. He suffered Persecution not as an evil doer, yet he took no offence.
Because he was not offended, he hated no one and he slept so deep even in Prison the Angel had to smite him before he could rise up - That was Great Peace. *Acts 12:7*
This was unlike Cain whose offering was rejected by God, while his brother's offering was accepted. Cain was angry and slew his brother. He took offence, developed hatred for his brother and slew him - *Genesis 4:8*
*Prayer:*
Father, give me Grace to always overlook offences so as to enjoy Great Peace in Jesus Christ Name.
