SCRIPTURE: Jephthah the Gileadite was a Mighty Man of Valor, but he was the son of a harlot; and Gilead begot Jephthah - *Judges 11:1*
Jephthah, the son of Gilead was introduced as a Mighty Man of Valour, a Man of great courage in the face of danger and battle. He had not gone to war, yet he was introduced as a Mighty Man of Valour.
*Jephthah's background gives us a clue on why he was introduced as a Mighty Man of Valour - He was born out of Wedlock, and his mother was a harlot. His step brothers therefore haunted him with his ugly background which was not his fault. He was denied his inheritance in the family and thrown out of the house.*
*Jephthah was indeed a Mighty Man of Valour because it takes courage for a man to withstand all these unpleasant development without emotional breakdown.*
*He was very much hated by the People expected to show him love, he was despised and rejected by his own People that were supposed to celebrate him.*
Jephthah was able to conquer himself - He had rule over his spirit. He disciplined himself not to be moved by how he felt - *Proverbs 25:28*
*It is obvious from Jephthah's story that: The strength of man lies not in the ability to conquer Cities but in the ability to conquer oneself.*
*A man who is Strong Within cannot be limited by his background. The opinion of men cannot even stop him from fulfilling his Destiny.*
*Therefore, developing "Inner Strength" is more important than developing weapons of war.*
God told Joshua be Strong and of Good Courage - *Joshua 1:9*
The "Inner Strength" is developed by constant reading of the Word, Prayer, Prompt and Full Obedience.*
And we must always Pray that God will grant us to be Strengthened with Might by His Spirit in our Inner Man - *Ephesians 3:16*
*Prayer*
Father, Please give me Grace to conquer myself so that I can conquer the world for You in Jesus Christ Name.
