*GROWING YOUR RELATIONSHIPS*

*By Pastor E O Gabriel  14 June 2025: Share*

SCRIPTURE:And it came to Pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the Soul of Jonathan was knit with the Soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own Soul - *1 Samuel 18:1*

*Relationships have the tendency to either grow up or degenerate.*

*Two People in a relationship can either be intimate or become enemies.*

King Saul and David had a relationship. Saul would not allow David return home to his father. But this relationship later degenerated to the extent that Saul wanted to kill David - *1 Samuel 18:11*

On the other hand, David and Jonathan's relationship grew and evolved into a Covenant.

*The Bible says, in our anchor Text that the Soul of Jonathan was knit with that of David - This reveals the depth of their relationship and this continued till death separated them.*

*Let us consider the ingredients of developing a relationship:*

*(1)* *Communication*

The anchor Text says when David had made an end of speaking to Saul, that the Soul of Jonathan was knit with that of Daul.

*Relationships grow on the alytar of communication, without deceit and guile.*

*We later saw that because the relationship grew, their communication grew from verbal to non verbal. They were communicating with Signs* - *1 Samuel 20:20-39*

*(2)* *Openness and Transparency*

Jonathan hid none of his father's secret Plots to kill David - *1 Samuel 20:20-38*

*In a growing relationship secrets are not kept from one another.*

*(3)*  *Speaking Good about the relationship to Others.*

Jonathan spoke Good of David to Saul, his father - *1 Samuel 19:4*

*(4)* *Give no Place for anger.*

Anger pulls down a relationship - *Proverbs 14:1, Ecclesiastes 7:9*

*(5)* *Unending Commitment.*

The Bible says Jonathan made a Covenant with David because he loved him - *1 Samuel 18:3*

*The Covenant signifies an Unending Commitment to one another.*

Even after the death of Jonathan, David was still committed to him by showing kindness to his son - *2 Samuel 9:1*

*The blessings of a growing relationship are enormous. For instance, it Provides a sure cover in times of Storms.*

*Therefore, we must Painstakingly grow our relationships.*

*Prayer:*

Father, Please make me a True friend to Others in Jesus Christ Name.
