*LIFE AT BETHEL*

*By Pastor E O Gabriel  23 June 2023*

SCRIPTURE: he called the name of that Place Beth–el: but the name of that City was called Luz at the first - *Genesis 28:19*

Jacob ran away from his brother Esau, who sought to kill him, and his first night outside his father's house was at Bethel.

At Sunset, he gathered stones to make himself a Pillow. He slept, dreamt and saw a ladder connecting him with Heaven. At the top of the ladder was God who introduced Himself to him. God made many Promises to him and he was full of hope and even made a Vow to God.

*The salient points at Bethel are as follows:*

*(1)* God is at Bethel.

Jacob woke up and said God is in this Place and I know not.

*(2)* Angelic Ministrations - *Genesis 28:12*

Angels are Ministering Spirits, and ascend and descend at Bethel.

*Heaven responds to the Earth at Bethel.*

*(3)* There is hope at Bethel.

Bethel is a Place of hope.

Jacob's situation was hard and hopeless but the Voice of God gave him Hope.

*(4)* Fear Of God - *Genesis 28:17*

The fear of God that makes a Man to depart from all evils, sins and Unrighteousness.

*(5)* Altars are raised at Bethel - *Genesis 28:18*

Jacob took the stones that he used as Pillows to raise an Altar, a Memorial of where he met with God.

*An Altar is the Meeting Point between the Divinity and Humanity.*

*(6)* There was a name Change at Bethel - *Genesis 28:19*

*The name of the Place was Luz but was changed to Bethel, meaning House of God - The Gate of heaven.*

*Names are changed at Bethel; the barren are called Fruitful at Bethel.*

*(7)* Vows are made at Bethel - *Genesis 28:20*

Jacob Voluntarily made a vow at Bethel.

In the days of his Power, his People shall be willing - *Psalms 110:3*

*Willingness to Give, willingness to make  Sacrifices, willingness to lay down one's life, willingness to offer the best etc.*

*How did Jacob get to Bethel?*

*(1)* He arose and fled - *Genesis 27:43*

*(2)* He took nothing from home, though his father was very Great - *Genesis 26:13*

*At Bethel he had not even money to buy Pillow. He ran out without his comfort; hence he ran out naked. We must empty ourselves before God at Bethel.*

*(3)* He tarried all Night - *Genesis 28:11*

He was quiet, he was stilled.

God said: "Be Still" and know that I am God - *Psalms 46:10*

*Bethel is a Place of Divine Encounter and Transformation.*

*Prayer:*

Father, Please lead me to my Bethel and bring about a Glorious Transformation in my Life.
