       *DOUBLE PORTION*

SCRIPTURE: And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I Pray thee, let a Double Portion of thy Spirit be upon me - *2 Kings 2:9*


When Elijah was to be taken up by a whirlwind, his Spiritual son Elisha asked for a Double Portion of the Spirit upon Elijah.


*Why did he ask for Double Portion?*


*(1)* He wanted to move from the Natural realm to the Supernatural. 


His father was Operating in the realm of the Supernatural and he knew the realm is Superior to the Natural. 


*Elijah was commanding Ahab who was in the Natural realm.* 


Elisha desired the Superior realm - *1 Kings 18:41*


*(2)* He wanted to be a Blessing to his Generation. 


He knew his father was a Blessing to his Generation, bringing Joy to homes and the Nation - *1 Kings 17:41-45*


Elisha wanted to do same.


*(3)* He wanted to do Greater Works than his father - *John 14:12*


*(4)* He wanted to Succeed where his father failed. 


He could see his father's inability to handle some situations. 


For instance, the breaking of the Curse on Jericho - *2 Kings 2:19-21*


*(5)* He wanted to fulfil his Destiny.


It is in his Destiny to be Greater than his father just as Isaac was greater than Abraham - *Genesis 24:35; Genesis 26:13*


*We also must desire to go further in Life than those who have gone before.*


*Prayer:*

Father, Please let me break the record of those who have gone before me  and set another record in Jesus Christ Name.

Jacob was enlarged, and the Bible says, the man (Jacob) increased Exceedingly - *Genesis 30:43* The Enlargement of Jacob was with a lot of Struggles.  He Struggled with Esau, his brother, in the womb - *Genesis 25:22* Even when he was born, he continued to Struggle with Esau, for his Birthright.  Jacob, in his quest for Enlargement, deceived his father. Jacob also Struggled with Laban, his Uncle.
